The Supreme Court of India has expressed serious concerns regarding the Ghaziabad police's handling of the rape and murder case of a four-year-old girl. Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi noted a significant reluctance from the police to lodge a First Information Report (FIR) and conduct a thorough investigation. The police filed a charge sheet on April 3 under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, which the court acknowledged but criticized the delay in the FIR, which only mentioned murder without addressing the rape aspect. The victim's father, a daily wage worker, has requested a court-monitored investigation by a special investigation team (SIT) or the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The court has also directed two private hospitals, Khajan Singh Mannvi Health Care and St Joseph Hospital, to respond to allegations of denying treatment to the victim, who ultimately died at a government hospital. The Supreme Court has emphasized the importance of timely medical intervention and expressed dismay over the police's insensitivity. The case will be revisited in the coming week as the court seeks to ensure justice for the victim and her family.
