The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a response opposing the request for recusal of Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma from the liquor policy case involving former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and other accused. The CBI stated that attending a seminar organized by the Akhil Bharatiya Adhivakta Parishad, a legal organization affiliated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), does not demonstrate any ideological bias. Kejriwal's application claims a reasonable apprehension of bias due to Justice Sharma's previous rulings against him and other accused in related cases. The CBI emphasized that such claims are frivolous and could undermine the authority of the court, labeling them as an attempt to scandalize judicial proceedings. The agency also noted that if such a recusal were granted, it could set a precedent requiring many judges to recuse themselves from cases involving politically exposed persons. The hearing for this matter is scheduled for April 13, where the CBI is expected to further argue against the recusal based on the independence of the judiciary.
