In Chennai, officials from the election flying squad confiscated gold and silver ornaments worth several crores in two distinct incidents. The first seizure took place on Thursday night in Thousand Lights constituency, where officers stopped a vehicle on Narasimman Street. The occupants could not provide valid documentation for the jewellery, which was reportedly brought from Mumbai for a jewellery outlet in Chennai. The consignment was subsequently handed over to income tax department officials in Nungambakkam. In a second incident, a vehicle was intercepted near Lakshmapuram on the Chennai-Tirupati national highway, leading to the seizure of more gold jewellery and silver articles. The occupants claimed they were transporting the items to shops in Tirupati but also failed to produce supporting documents. This consignment was handed over to the treasury.
