The Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, scheduled for April 23, will see 4,654 candidates vying for seats, a rise from the 2021 elections. Out of 7,599 nominations, the Election Commission of India (ECI) rejected 2,460, while 485 candidates withdrew their nominations during scrutiny. Karur district will have the most candidates, with 85 valid nominations out of 108, while Ambasamudram has the least, with only five valid nominations. Other constituencies like Udhagamandalam and Gudalur (Scheduled Caste) also reported low numbers, each with six valid nominations. The ECI noted that 14 constituencies will have between 30 to 37 candidates competing. The scrutiny process revealed that Thondamuthur had the highest rejection rate, with 50 out of 77 nominations rejected. The final list of candidates will be announced on Friday.
