The Madras High Court in Chennai has ruled against a petition requesting the transfer of government employees who have been stationed in the same roles for over three years. The plea, submitted by the Integrated Manapparai Taluk Rainfed and Irrigated Farmers Association, argued that a government order from 1994 mandates such transfers to ensure transparency and prevent misuse of power. The association claimed that long-term postings could lead to biased implementation of welfare schemes and potentially compromise the impartiality of officials during elections. However, the court, led by Chief Justice Sushrut Arvind Dharmadhikari and Justice G Arul Murugan, stated that transfers are a service-related matter and should not be addressed through public interest litigation (PIL). The court did, however, direct the Election Commission of India (ECI) to consider the petitioner's representation under the law.
