The Greater Agra project, recently announced by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, aims to develop a new urban cluster on the outskirts of Agra city, India. Spanning 450 hectares across Raipur and Rehankalan villages in Agra district, the project will feature 10 themed townships named after sacred rivers, including Sindhupuram, Gomtipuram, and Kaveripuram. With an estimated cost of ₹5,142 crore, the project will include ₹870 crore for land acquisition and ₹4,272 crore for infrastructure development. The initiative is designed to alleviate urban congestion by creating a fully serviced urban ecosystem that can house nearly 1.5 lakh people. The layout will incorporate essential services like schools, hospitals, and community centers, aiming to avoid the unplanned sprawl seen in older cities. Furthermore, the project emphasizes connectivity with a modern road network linked to the Yamuna Expressway and Agra-Lucknow Expressway, and it reserves 15% of land for green spaces. This development is positioned as an alternative growth center to the National Capital Region's congested cities, potentially generating jobs in various sectors.
