The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has initiated a significant road-widening project along S V Road in Andheri West, Mumbai, aimed at easing traffic congestion in the western suburbs. This ambitious project spans nearly 3 kilometres, from J P Road to the Oshiwara river, and involves the removal or relocation of 502 structures. The project is divided into three phases, with Phase 1 already addressing 196 structures between the J P Road and Ceasar Road junctions. A civic official noted that many affected parties voluntarily agreed to demolish their structures, facilitating the process. The second phase will impact 119 structures between Ceasar Road and Farukh High School, while the third phase will involve 215 structures extending to the Oshiwara river. Once completed, the BMC estimates that commute times will drastically reduce from 35 minutes to just 15 minutes along this vital arterial route. K West ward assistant commissioner Chakrapani Alle highlighted the project's importance, stating that all phases are expected to be completed by December 2023, with rehabilitation options for affected parties still under consideration.
