The Ministry of Education in India launched 150 accessible career cards for children with special needs (CwSN) on March 31, 2026. This initiative, unveiled by Sanjay Kumar, Secretary of the Department of School Education and Literacy, aims to provide inclusive career guidance and ensure equal access to information about various career options. Developed with input from organizations such as UNICEF India and the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), these career cards are designed to be more accessible, including features like Braille for visually impaired students.

Kumar emphasized the importance of early identification and support for children with special needs within the school system to prevent them from being left behind. He noted that while more positions for special educators have been created, there is a need for regular teachers to receive focused training. The initiative is part of a broader effort aligned with the National Education Policy 2020, which stresses skill development and aims for every student completing Class 12 to possess at least one core skill by 2030. The career cards will help students understand various career opportunities, qualifications required, and potential career paths, serving as valuable tools for teachers and counselors in guiding students towards informed academic and career decisions.
