External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar arrived in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, on April 11 for a two-day official visit focused on enhancing India's energy security and strategic ties with the UAE. This visit is part of India's broader diplomatic efforts in the Gulf, especially amid ongoing regional conflicts that have disrupted global energy flows. Jaishankar is expected to meet senior UAE leaders to review bilateral cooperation and strengthen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two nations. Simultaneously, Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri is visiting other Gulf countries, both trips directed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to secure stable energy supplies. The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, emphasized the importance of these visits in fostering stronger ties. India's focus on energy security is heightened due to the conflict in West Asia and Iran's blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, which affects significant oil and gas imports. Additionally, India is extending energy support to neighboring countries, having recently delivered 38 metric tonnes of petroleum products to Sri Lanka and finalizing an agreement with Mauritius for oil and gas supply.
