On Monday, the Supreme Court of India directed the Election Commission to finalize and publish the supplementary voters' list by midnight, as the adjudication of claims from the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls is nearly complete. Chief Justice of India Surya Kant highlighted that over 59 lakh cases out of 60 lakh have been decided, indicating that the process would conclude soon. The court was informed that only 26,000 cases from Phase 1 and 20,000-25,000 from Phase 2 remained pending, which would also be resolved within hours. However, the Supreme Court declined to set a deadline for appellate tribunals to decide on appeals against judicial officers' rulings, stating that the electoral list needs to be frozen. Justice Joymalya Bagchi emphasized the importance of stabilizing the electoral process while allowing tribunals to continue their hearings without rush. Additionally, IAS officer Vibhu Goel has been appointed as Additional Chief Electoral Officer and Nodal Officer to enhance coordination between the Appellate Tribunals and the West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer's office.
