In the lead-up to the West Bengal Assembly elections, at least two candidates from the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) have been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the National Investigating Agency (NIA). Manab Kumar Parua, the candidate from Bhangabanpur, has been asked to appear before NIA officials on April 2, 2026, regarding his involvement in an unspecified case. Debasish Kumar, the sitting MLA from Rashbehari, appeared before the ED on March 30 in connection with a land-grabbing investigation linked to a private company. TMC leadership has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of orchestrating these summons to harass their candidates and disrupt their campaign efforts. TMC candidate Kunal Ghosh criticized the timing of the summons, questioning why they were not issued earlier and labeling them a 'panic reaction' from the BJP. He asserted that such tactics would only galvanize voter support for the TMC. Additionally, Shantanu Sinha Biswas, a Deputy Commissioner of the Special Branch of Kolkata Police, has also been summoned by the ED concerning a coal scam, with a hearing set for April 6, 2026.
