Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is currently in discussions with a Russian committee regarding the partnership for supplying the Sukhoi 57 (Su-57) fifth-generation stealth fighter jet to the Indian Air Force. HAL Chairman & Managing Director, DK Sunil, stated that the Russian team has made presentations on the aircraft's capabilities and assessed that approximately 50% of HAL's facilities can be utilized for its production, although additional investments will be necessary. HAL is now awaiting a quotation from Russia regarding these investments, which will inform their approach to the Indian Air Force on production timelines and financial requirements. The longstanding military technical cooperation between India and Russia has evolved significantly, transitioning from a buyer-seller model to joint research, development, and production of advanced defense technologies. This partnership also includes the co-production of various defense platforms and the potential for exports to other countries. Russian officials have reiterated their commitment to supporting India's defense needs, including technology transfer for the Su-57 without restrictions.
