India has officially commissioned the INS Aridhaman, its third indigenous nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine, at a ceremony in Visakhapatnam. This submarine, part of the Advanced Technology Vessel project, boasts a displacement of 7,000 tonnes and is equipped with advanced stealth features and a vertical launch system capable of carrying up to 24 K-15 Sagarika missiles or eight K-4 missiles. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh highlighted the submarine's role in enhancing India's nuclear triad and second-strike capability. Additionally, the INS Taragiri, a 6,670-tonne stealth frigate, was commissioned, showcasing a generational leap in naval design. The event also marked the foundation stone laying for a new cavitation tunnel facility, which will bolster India's naval research and development. Rajnath emphasized the necessity of a strong navy for protecting trade routes and ensuring national security, stating that the Indian Navy is prepared to assist during humanitarian crises and maintain maritime security globally.
