Nanku alias Pappu Chaudhary, a domestic worker from Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, and his wife, Sapna, were arrested in Khanna, Punjab, for allegedly stealing jewelry valued at ₹80 lakh (approximately $96,000 USD) from their employer, iron trader Praveen Kanwar. The couple had been living in the trader's home, where Nanku was initially hired to care for a sick family member. The theft was discovered when the family's daughter returned from Dubai for a wedding and found the jewelry missing. After conducting inquiries, the family suspected Nanku when they noticed his sudden financial gains, including the construction of a house in Ayodhya and the purchase of luxury items. The police were alerted after the couple's children provided crucial information. An FIR was registered on March 31, leading to their arrest and the recovery of about 50 grams of the stolen jewelry. The police are continuing efforts to trace the remaining items and potential buyers. Nanku has a criminal history, having previously been booked for theft in Mandi Gobindgarh in 2019.
