Indian Railways has removed speed restrictions on the Mumbai-Nagpur rail route in Maharashtra, allowing for faster train operations. This decision follows the completion of Through Formation Treatment (TFTR) work on the Up line of the Asvali-Padli section, which is part of the Bhusaval Division. Previously, a Permanent Speed Restriction (PSR) of 75 kmph was enforced over a stretch of 800 meters, affecting travel time and requiring constant monitoring, especially during the monsoon season. The Central Railway's Chief Public Relations Officer, Dr. Swapnil Nila, noted that the work involved significant challenges due to the area's semi ghat terrain and limited accessibility. The upgrades are expected to improve safety and efficiency on this vital route. Additionally, in the financial year 2025-26, Central Railway plans to operate 8,840 trips of special trains, including 348 Festival special trains and 2,169 Summer Special trains from April to July, with a significant portion serving Maharashtra.
