The Indian government has urged citizens to avoid panic buying of petroleum products, including petrol, diesel, and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), stating that supplies are adequate despite disruptions caused by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas reassured the public that proactive measures are in place to ensure uninterrupted availability, prioritizing domestic LPG and piped natural gas (PNG) supplies for households and essential services. Authorities have conducted over 3,700 raids against hoarding and black marketing, issuing around 1,000 show-cause notices to LPG distributors, resulting in 27 dealership suspensions. On Friday alone, approximately 51 lakh LPG cylinders were delivered, with online bookings accounting for 95% of total demand. To manage rising global oil prices, the government has cut excise duty on petrol and diesel by ₹10 per litre and imposed export levies on diesel and aviation fuel. The ministry confirmed that all refineries are operating at high capacity, ensuring that petrol pumps remain fully stocked, while state governments have been instructed to monitor distribution and counter misinformation.
