The international conference 'Kurukshetra: Through the Ages' commenced at Kurukshetra University in Haryana, India, on Wednesday. Organized in collaboration with the Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR) and other institutions, the event aims to elevate Kurukshetra's status as a major spiritual and tourist destination. Gita Scholar Swami Gyananand highlighted the region's significance as the battlefield of the Mahabharata and the site of Lord Krishna's teachings in the Bhagavad Gita. He noted that Kurukshetra has yet to gain the global recognition it deserves. KU Vice Chancellor Som Nath Sachdeva emphasized the Bhagavad Gita's teachings on duty and morality, advocating for universities to foster socially aware individuals. Historian Raghvendra Tanwar, chairman of the ICHR, described Kurukshetra as a living symbol shaped by various historical forces, tracing its evolution from the time of Emperor Harshavardhana through colonial changes and its role during the Partition.
