A 16-year-old girl from Chakradharpur sub-division in West Singhbhum district, Jharkhand, was sold into human trafficking for ₹25,000 (approximately $300 USD) in Uttar Pradesh. On January 20, she left her elder sister to go to Chakradharpur Railway Station, where a trafficker convinced her to accompany him with false promises of employment. The trafficker took her to Inayatpur in Sitapur district, where she was sold to Sandeep Kumar, who mortgaged land to pay for her. After her family reported her missing on April 2, police used technical surveillance to locate and rescue her on April 13. The girl reported being tortured, with burn marks on her body, and police are awaiting medical examination results to confirm allegations of sexual assault. Both suspects have been arrested and are now in judicial custody.
