A new public interest litigation (PIL) was filed in the Kerala High Court on Tuesday, aiming to remove 'Kerala' from the title of the Hindi film The Kerala Story 2 – Goes Beyond. The petitioners, comprising a retired social science teacher and a lawyer, argue that the film misrepresents Kerala by depicting it as a center for forced conversions, potentially inciting hatred against the Muslim community in the state. Previously, a Single Bench of the court had issued a fortnight-long interim stay on the film's release, citing concerns that its teaser could distort public perception and disrupt communal harmony. However, after an appeal, a Division Bench allowed the film's screening, asserting that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) had presumably adhered to relevant guidelines upon issuing the censor certificate. The petitioners are also requesting a directive for the film to include a disclaimer indicating its fictional nature and to establish guidelines to prevent future films from denigrating any state, region, caste, or religion.
