In the lead-up to the West Bengal Assembly elections, Abhishek Banerjee (General Secretary of the Trinamool Congress) has sharply criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), framing the contest as a battle between the BJP's 'Remote Control' and TMC's 'Report Card.' Banerjee accused the BJP of using its influence to obstruct rightful funds for Bengal, disenfranchising voters through the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, and promoting chaos and communal discord. He emphasized that the TMC has achieved significant development over the past 15 years without central assistance, presenting a 'Report Card' of their accomplishments. The elections for the 294-member Assembly will take place in two phases on April 23 and April 29, with the counting of votes set for May 4. In the previous assembly elections held in 2021, the TMC won a decisive 213 seats, while the BJP increased its presence to 77 seats.
