Uttar Pradesh, India, has become the top-performing large state in freezing cyber fraud-related funds, thanks to the efforts of the Cyber Fraud Mitigation Centre (CFMC). From April 2025 to March 2026, the state successfully secured ₹425.7 crore through lien marking, surpassing Gujarat by two percentage points and exceeding the large-state average by 6.1 percentage points. Established in July 2025 in Lucknow, the CFMC was a response to a surge in unattended fraud cases, leading to the creation of a dedicated cyber call center. In March 2026 alone, Uttar Pradesh recorded 29,534 complaints involving a reported fraud amount of ₹110.42 crore, with ₹41.10 crore successfully frozen, resulting in a lien percentage of 37.2%. This marks a significant improvement from the ₹22.64 crore lien-marked amount in June 2025, where the recovery efficiency was just 20.03%. The CFMC's proactive measures, including real-time responses and enhanced data sharing, have proven effective in combating cyber fraud. A recent case involved a ₹9 lakh fraud that was frozen immediately after the complaint was lodged, demonstrating the CFMC's commitment to rapid intervention.
