Gurugram, Haryana, has ramped up enforcement of traffic regulations, resulting in the seizure of five motorcycles since February 5 due to a high number of unpaid fines. The latest action involved two motorcycles, a Hero Splendour and an HF Deluxe, which had 24 and 35 pending challans, respectively, amounting to fines of ₹99,000 ($1,200 USD) and ₹70,000 ($850 USD). The violations were detected through manual checks and CCTV surveillance, including offenses like driving without a registration plate, wrong-side driving, and lack of insurance or pollution certificates. The motorcycles were confiscated at checkposts by zonal officers and taken to a designated parking area. Under section 167(8) of the Motor Vehicles Act, vehicles will be released only after owners pay their outstanding fines. Additionally, Gurugram traffic police towed 524 wrongly parked vehicles and issued 13,472 parking challans, totaling ₹73.62 lakh ($88,000 USD) in March.
