On April 18, Sanjay Vasant Neve, a 64-year-old trekker from Dahisar, Mumbai, fell approximately 250 feet into a gorge while descending Torna Fort. The incident took place between 10 pm and 11 pm, prompting a swift response from the Velhe police station led by officer Amit Deshmukh. Local residents initially attempted to rescue Neve, but due to the challenging terrain, a specialized disaster response team was called in. They successfully retrieved Neve within two hours, and he was later taken to Velhe primary health center, where he is reported to be in stable condition. This incident follows another mishap on April 17, where a group of trekkers at Visapur Fort near Lonavala lost their way but were rescued without injuries. Experts, including Deepak Ghorpade from a disaster management organization, emphasize the need for trekkers to exercise caution, especially near edges, and to be well-informed about the terrain to prevent such incidents.
