The Shaheed Bhai Mani Singh Civil Hospital in Bathinda, Punjab, India, is set to open an Integrated Public Health Laboratory (IPHL) within two months, which will offer nearly 150 diagnostic tests under one roof. This initiative, funded by the Prime Minister Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission and the Punjab government, aims to provide patients with easier access to medical testing at significantly lower costs. Currently, many patients must travel to private labs for tests, which can be both time-consuming and expensive. The new facility will allow for faster testing and quicker report generation, streamlining the process for patients. The three-storey lab will specialize in various fields including microbiology, haematology, clinical biochemistry, and molecular biology, and will also conduct advanced investigations such as cardiac and cancer markers. Senior medical officer Dr. Arun Bansal emphasized that the lab will significantly improve disease detection and surveillance capabilities. Bathinda Urban MLA Jagroop Singh Gill noted that the project will save patients both time and money, contributing to better health outcomes in the community.
