In a late-night operation in Gurugram, Haryana, the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) intercepted a vehicle carrying counterfeit Mounjaro KwikPen injections, leading to the arrest of two individuals. Mounjaro, manufactured by Eli Lilly and Company, is used for managing type 2 diabetes and aiding weight loss. The FDA acted on a tip-off regarding the illegal sale of these spurious injections, which were found in multiple strengths ranging from 2.5 mg to 15 mg. The operation was led by Drugs Control Officer Amandeep Chauhan, who, along with police personnel, laid a trap near the HUDA City Centre Metro Station. The driver, Shahbaz Alam Ansari, and passenger Mujammil Khan, a medical representative, were apprehended with the injections, valued at approximately ₹56.15 lakh (around $67,000 USD). The drugs were improperly stored and showed discrepancies in labeling, confirming their counterfeit status. Both suspects face charges under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, with further investigations underway to identify the broader distribution network.
