The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced the Class 10 results for 2026, marking a significant change in the examination system with the introduction of a dual board examination policy. The national pass percentage has seen a slight increase to 93.7%, up from 93.66% last year. This year, students had the opportunity to sit for exams in two rounds, allowing those seeking to improve their scores in up to three subjects to retake exams in May. This new approach aims to alleviate the pressure associated with a single year-end examination.
In the Pune region, which encompasses Maharashtra, Goa, and Daman and Diu, the pass percentage reached 96.66%, with 1,28,933 out of 1,33,382 candidates qualifying. Nationally, the highest success rates were recorded in Thiruvananthapuram and Vijayawada, both at 99.79%, followed closely by Chennai at 99.58%. The results indicate a shift from rote memorization to application-based testing, emphasizing critical thinking and real-world problem-solving.
Despite strong performances in linguistic subjects, mathematics posed challenges for many students, with educators noting that the difficult nature of the math paper negatively impacted overall scores. Notably, 2,21,574 students scored 90% and above, reflecting a 4.3% increase from the previous year, while the number of students achieving 95% and above rose by 15.4% to 55,368. Girls continued to outperform boys, achieving a pass rate of 94.99%, while transgender students recorded a pass rate of 87.5%. A total of 1,47,172 students fell into the compartment category, and they are eligible to apply for the upcoming second round of exams.
