Bihar's Deputy Chief Minister and Transport Minister, Vijay Kumar Choudhary, announced a new initiative providing free medical treatment worth up to ₹1.5 lakh (approximately $1,800 USD) for victims of road accidents at state-run emergency trauma centers. This scheme, named 'Jaan hai to jahaan hai' (life comes first), aims to address the high number of road fatalities and improve the quality of care for accident survivors during the critical 'golden hour' after an incident. Choudhary emphasized the importance of timely medical assistance, stating that any injured person can access treatment at no cost. The government is also modernizing traffic management in major towns through an integrated traffic management system (ITMS) to reduce congestion and enhance road safety. Additionally, a new digital tracking module for drivers will be implemented, encouraging refresher courses with incentives for participation. The initiative also includes plans to improve Bihar's underutilized inland waterways, aiming to alleviate pressure on road transport. These measures reflect the government's commitment to enhancing road safety and emergency response in the state.
