The National Commission for Women (NCW) has responded to the murder of 19-year-old Siya Guleria, a college student, in Sarkaghat, Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh. The incident occurred on Monday morning when Guleria was attacked by an assailant who slit her throat and stabbed her multiple times, leading to her immediate death. The NCW has requested an action taken report from the Himachal Police within seven days, emphasizing the urgent need for safety measures for girls in educational institutions. In a statement, the commission condemned the act and called for a thorough investigation, forensic examination, and protection for the victim's family. Meanwhile, the local ex-servicemen community has expressed their outrage and requested that the case be tried in a fast-track court, highlighting the growing concerns about the safety of women in the region. The police are currently investigating the motive behind the crime, with Mandi's Superintendent of Police, Vinod Kumar, assuring a comprehensive inquiry.
