This move is significant as it comes despite the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) holding a commanding majority with 202 out of 243 seats. An official from the Vidhan Sabha stated that the trust vote is in accordance with the spirit of the Constitution, specifically Article 164(2), which mandates that the Council of Ministers be collectively responsible to the Legislative Assembly. The current cabinet is comprised of just three members, including two deputy chief ministers, Vijay Kumar Choudhary and Bijendra Prasad Yadav, with plans for expansion in May. The NDA's majority remains unchanged, with the BJP as the largest party holding 89 seats, followed by Janata Dal (United) with 84 seats and Lok Janshakti Party with 19 seats. The Rashtriya Janata Dal, which was the largest party in the 2020 elections, now holds only 25 seats.
