The Samrat Choudhary government in Bihar will hold a confidence vote on April 24 during a one-day session of the 18th Bihar Legislative Assembly. This decision comes after the previous Nitish Kumar-led government did not seek a trust vote due to its significant majority of 202 seats in the 243-member Assembly. The move is in accordance with Article 164(2) of the Indian Constitution, which mandates that the Council of Ministers is collectively responsible to the Legislative Assembly. Currently, the Choudhary Cabinet consists of only three members, including two Deputy Chief Ministers, Vijay Kumar Choudhary and Bijendra Prasad Yadav, with plans for a cabinet expansion in May. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) remains the largest party in the Assembly with 89 members, followed by the Janata Dal (United) with 84 and the Lok Janshakti Party with 19. The recent voting behavior of some opposition members during the Rajya Sabha elections may also influence future dynamics in the Assembly, as four opposition members abstained from voting, allowing the NDA to secure all five seats.
