On Thursday, Punjab Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond inaugurated development projects totaling over ₹22 lakh at PM Shri Government High School and Government Middle School in Khanna, Punjab. The highlight was a beauty and wellness lab at the high school, costing ₹13.2 lakh, aimed at providing vocational training to students in Classes 9 and 10. Additionally, a smart classroom valued at ₹9.55 lakh was opened at the middle school, equipped with modern teaching tools. Despite these advancements, the Lecturer Cadre Union criticized the government for focusing on inaugurations rather than addressing the critical issue of teacher vacancies in schools. Union representatives emphasized that genuine educational reform requires adequate staffing, not just infrastructure improvements. The Deputy District Education Officer noted that these inaugurations were delayed from the previous year and assured that the government is working on recruitment efforts. Schools are set to receive funds for organizing such events, but past delays in funding have raised concerns among educators.
