In Ludhiana, Punjab, teachers have expressed concerns regarding the deployment for Census duties, urging the local administration to limit the number of teachers assigned to 60% of the total roster. This request comes from a memorandum submitted to Deputy Commissioner and District Education Officer, led by Dharamjeet Singh Dhillon (state finance secretary of the Lecturer Cadre Union). The union argues that the current deployment is hindering classroom teaching and the student admission process, particularly impacting the ongoing Mission Samrath program. They propose that the remaining Census duties be filled by personnel from other departments to maintain educational standards. Additionally, they are advocating for exemptions for teachers nearing retirement, those on maternity leave, and for assignments to be localized to enable teachers to continue supporting their students. The Deputy District Education Officer, Manoj Kumar, indicated that discussions with the administration are ongoing to find a resolution.

If the deployment is not limited, it could lead to decreased student retention and hinder the admission process at the start of the academic year.
