HiPP, a baby food manufacturer, has initiated a precautionary recall of several products after tests revealed rat poison contamination in 190-gram jars of carrot and potato baby food. This recall affects products sold in Austria, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic. The contaminated jars were intended for infants aged five months and older and were primarily sold through SPAR supermarkets. HiPP reported that the first contaminated sample was identified on Saturday and emphasized that the issue is not due to any manufacturing defect but appears to be a criminal act that is currently under investigation. Customers are advised to return the products for a full refund, even without a receipt. Retailers in Slovakia and the Czech Republic have also removed all HiPP baby food jars from their shelves following these alarming reports. Authorities noted that the tampered jars had a spoiled odor, raising suspicion, but confirmed that no consumption cases have been reported so far.
