The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has decided to outsource the operation and maintenance of boosting stations and the water distribution network to private agencies under a ₹38-crore plan. This move aims to streamline drinking water supply and address shortages during peak summer months by ensuring uninterrupted service, quicker complaint resolution, and improved infrastructure maintenance. Contracts will be awarded for two years, replacing the previous short-term tender system. The city has been divided into multiple zones, with separate tenders issued for different wards. Notably, ₹9.3 crore will be allocated for wards 11, 14, 15, and 18, while ₹7.9 crore is earmarked for wards 1, 12, and 13. Additional funds include ₹6.9 crore for wards 9, 10, 16, and 17, and ₹5.9 crore for other divisions. Ravindra Yadav, additional commissioner of MCG, emphasized that longer-duration contracts would enhance accountability and service continuity, addressing previous issues of disruptions and delays. While the initiative has been generally welcomed, some residents have raised concerns about the adequacy of manpower from private contractors, urging the corporation to ensure sufficient staffing to prevent delays in repairs. The tendering process is expected to commence soon, with contracts awarded shortly.
