The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has reported a significant loss of ₹591 crore for the financial year 2025-26, with total revenue of ₹11,475 crore against expenditures of ₹12,066 crore. Alarmingly, only eight out of 31 divisions are profitable, leaving 23 divisions incurring losses, particularly in regions like Nashik, Kolhapur, and Nagpur. State transport minister Pratap Sarnaik, during a review meeting, highlighted the urgent need for reforms, including better utilization of resources and a detailed analysis of loss-making divisions. He pointed out that the corporation faces a daily loss of approximately ₹1.6 crore, with average daily revenue at ₹31.40 crore and expenditures at ₹33 crore. Sarnaik stressed the importance of appointing capable leaders in underperforming divisions and implementing a comprehensive reform plan to enhance administrative discipline and accountability. He noted that previous profits in eight divisions show that improvements are possible with the right strategies.
