A massive fire broke out late Wednesday night at the Viva Oil Refinery in Geelong, Victoria, Australia, one of only two remaining oil refineries in the country. Fire Rescue Victoria responded to multiple reports of explosions and flames at approximately 11:15 PM. The fire, which is still being contained, involves liquid fuels and gases. Despite the severity of the situation, there have been no reported injuries, and Viva Energy stated that there is no immediate impact on fuel supplies. The refinery is crucial, supplying over 50% of Victoria's fuel and 10% of Australia's total fuel needs. Energy Minister Chris Bowen indicated that while diesel and jet fuel production continues, petrol production could face challenges in the coming days. This incident follows a recent agreement between Viva Energy and the Australian government to secure additional fuel during ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
