The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) is considering financing key infrastructure projects in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad through loans, bonds, and public-private partnerships (PPPs), aiming to raise up to 50% of the necessary funds. Major initiatives include the ₹7,000 crore Yerawada-Katraj underground twin tunnel, designed to alleviate traffic congestion within the city by functioning as an internal ring road. A feasibility study for this project is currently underway. Additionally, the PMRDA plans to implement a ₹218.07 crore project to clean the Pawana river, focusing on treating sewage before it enters the waterway. This initiative will adhere to guidelines from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and the National Green Tribunal (NGT), with sewage treatment plants to be established to improve water quality. The PMRDA is exploring all funding options as it prepares to issue tenders for the river improvement project.
