The Haryana government is set to launch an e-auction portal under the Haryana Forest Development Corporation (HFDC) to allow farmers to sell agroforestry trees like eucalyptus and poplar directly. This initiative, decided during the 146th meeting of the HFDC Board of Directors, aims to help farmers secure better prices by removing intermediaries. Farmers interested in using the portal must apply to the relevant general manager, after which HFDC will assess the standing trees and set a reserve price based on volume. Farmers can also choose their own reserve price. After the auction, if a farmer accepts the bid, HFDC will charge a 5% service fee, and the sale proceeds will be transferred directly to the farmer's bank account. Institutions can also participate, with a 10% service fee applicable. The additional chief secretary, Sudhir Rajpal, emphasized that this system is designed to maximize the value farmers receive for their produce, with expectations of increasing their income by up to 25%.
