Noma Projects, an offshoot of the acclaimed Copenhagen restaurant Noma, has opened a pop-up shop in Silver Lake, Los Angeles, after facing protests due to allegations of abuse against co-founder René Redzepi. The shop, located at 3300 Sunset Blvd., offers a range of gourmet products including sauces, vinegars, and merchandise, aiming to make Noma's unique flavors accessible to a wider audience. This marks Noma Projects' first long-term storefront, as previous offerings were limited to online sales and brief pop-ups. The opening comes amid ongoing discussions about potential protests led by former employee Jason Ignacio White and the nonprofit One Fair Wage, which is focused on advocating for better pay and working conditions in the hospitality industry. While White has distanced himself from One Fair Wage, the organization is considering protests at the new shop and is organizing a panel discussion on industry reform. Despite the controversies, Noma Projects' head, Annika de Las Heras, expressed openness to dialogue with any protesters who may visit the shop, emphasizing a commitment to positivity and community engagement.
