On Friday, the Delhi High Court permitted restaurants in Khan Market to operate without a fire no-objection certificate (NOC), provided they limit their guest capacity to fewer than 50 at any time. Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav highlighted the market's heritage status and acknowledged the structural constraints that limit access to the first and second floors. The court stated that the iconic market, known as Delhi's 'shaan,' should not be forced to shut down due to extraneous conditions. The ruling came in response to over 50 petitions from various restaurants, including Perch and Khan Chacha, seeking to renew their health licenses without the fire NOC requirement. The petitioners assured the court that they would comply with all safety measures and maintain the guest limit. Additionally, the court noted that a notification from the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) clarified that establishments with valid FSSAI or GST registration would not need a separate health trade license.
