Sodi Kesalu, also known as Malla, who led the People's Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA), along with 41 other commanders, surrendered to the Telangana police on Friday. They emerged from the Karregutta forest region near the Chhattisgarh–Telangana border and announced their decision to lay down arms at the police headquarters. The surrendered group handed over a significant cache of weapons, including 36 firearms, five AK-47 rifles, and 1,007 rounds of ammunition, along with 800 grams of gold. Telangana Director General of Police B Shivadhar Reddy stated that the total reward amount of ₹1.93 crore will be disbursed to the surrendered cadres. Reddy emphasized that the leadership changes within the PLGA had weakened the organization, leading to this surrender. With this event, the entire Telangana state committee of the PLGA has been effectively neutralized, suggesting that Telangana is now free from Maoist activities. Since 2024, 761 Maoists have surrendered to the police, reflecting growing trust in the government's rehabilitation policies and sustained pressure from security forces. However, five active cadres from Telangana remain in various formations outside the state, and police have appealed for their surrender.
