The indigenous Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) fleet in India is likely to resume operations within a week after resolving a software issue that impacted the braking system. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) chairman DK Sunil confirmed that the problem, which led to an accident on February 7, has been identified and is being addressed by a joint team of HAL officials, Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel, and the Centre for Military Airworthiness & Certification. Currently, the IAF operates 35 LCA jets, of which three have been lost in accidents. HAL has also received orders for 180 LCA Mk1A jets, which are still in production and have faced delays due to engine supply issues. Sunil mentioned that 18-20 airframes of the Mk1A have been manufactured, but the completion of firing tests for ASRAAM air-to-air missiles and the radar demonstration are still pending.
