The Uttarakhand Police have launched 'Operation Prahar' in Dehradun to address a surge in criminal activities, particularly following the murder of 74-year-old retired Brigadier MK Joshi. The operation was initiated after a high-level meeting led by Director General of Police Deepam Seth, where officials discussed strategies to enhance law enforcement in the state capital. Police will focus on increasing visibility in crime-prone areas, conducting thorough checks on tenants, and ensuring compliance with operational hours for bars and pubs. Following Joshi's murder, which occurred during a violent altercation between two groups, police have arrested four suspects linked to the incident. The operation also targets drug abuse and illicit liquor trade, with police conducting raids that resulted in the seizure of 57 quarters of illicit liquor and ₹2 lakh (approximately $2,400 USD) in cash. Police have emphasized that their crackdown on crime will continue in the coming days.
