The Indian government has disclosed that 414 protected monuments and areas under the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) are experiencing encroachments. Union Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat provided this information in a written response to a query in the Rajya Sabha. He also listed several monuments suffering from chemical weathering due to air pollution, including the Red Fort and Qila-e-Kuhna Mosque in Delhi, Jaisalmer Fort in Rajasthan, and Charminar in Hyderabad.
