In a significant move to support migrant workers, the Delhi government is doubling the daily supply of 5 kg LPG cylinders from 684 to 1,368. This increase follows a new allocation from the central government and aims to improve access for those without permanent addresses, who often face challenges in obtaining regular LPG connections due to documentation issues. To facilitate this, special camps will be set up in labor-heavy areas, allowing workers to purchase cylinders directly. At these camps, workers can present their Aadhaar as identity proof to buy the cylinders, simplifying the process for daily wage earners and those living in informal housing. District authorities will also monitor demand and distribution to prevent local shortages. This initiative is crucial as many migrant households have struggled with inconsistent access to cooking gas despite overall adequate supply, often hindered by a lack of nearby distributors or necessary documentation.
