The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) has awarded a total compensation of ₹1.79 crore (approximately $215,000 USD) to Anadi Dutta, a resident of Mansa Devi Complex, Panchkula, following a tragic road accident that occurred on April 26, 2024. The accident, which took place on the Ambala–Narnaul Expressway, resulted in the deaths of three family members: Manoj Kumar, his wife Urmila Mehta, and their daughter Chetna. The family was traveling to Khatu Shyam in Rajasthan when their vehicle collided with a stationary tip-trailer parked illegally on the highway. The tribunal found the driver, owner, and insurance company jointly liable for the compensation, which is broken down as follows: ₹71.92 lakh for Chetna, ₹56.85 lakh for Urmila Mehta, and ₹50.28 lakh for Manoj Kumar, with interest accruing at 7.5% per annum from the date of filing. The insurance company is responsible for disbursing the compensation but has the right to recover the amount from the driver and owner of the vehicle.
