Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, the chairperson of Biocon, took to social media to express her dissatisfaction with the condition of Hosur Road, a crucial stretch of National Highway 44 in Bengaluru. She criticized the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for what she described as shoddy design and maintenance, highlighting issues such as crooked medians and incomplete shoulders. In response, NHAI acknowledged that the road, constructed in 2010, is now under multiple authorities due to rapid urban growth and faces challenges from high traffic volumes, with over 100,000 daily commuters. The authority stated that regular maintenance is being conducted and that periodic renewal works were completed in April 2025. To address congestion, NHAI proposed the construction of four vehicular overpasses, including one near Biocon. Despite NHAI's assurances, Mazumdar-Shaw insisted on an inspection of the road by the chief engineer of NHAI Bengaluru, emphasizing the need to address the ongoing maintenance issues.
