During the Gomti Nagar Jankalyan Mahasamiti Annual Function, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh outlined his vision for the State Capital Region (SCR) in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, as a corridor of development. He stressed that the city's growth relies on enhancing infrastructure in surrounding areas. Singh announced the proposed National Highway-927, a 111 km four-lane highway from Barabanki to Bahraich, which will cost approximately ₹7,000 crore (roughly $840 million USD) and reduce travel time by over an hour. He also highlighted the newly constructed Gomti Nagar railway station, touted as Asia’s largest, which is expected to improve regional connectivity. Furthermore, the expansion of Lucknow airport, with a new terminal costing ₹24 crore (roughly $2.9 million USD), aims to accommodate a growing passenger base. Singh mentioned the establishment of a heavy electric vehicle factory by Ashok Leyland in Lucknow, which will produce 25,000 vehicles annually, creating local job opportunities. He concluded by noting that these developments are part of a well-planned scheme to make Lucknow a significant supply center within a 405-km radius.
