The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has launched an investigation into a terror module allegedly backed by Pakistan, aiming to carry out attacks in Delhi and Punjab. This follows the arrest of Shubham Kumar, an operative from Sitapur district in Uttar Pradesh, who was apprehended by the Punjab police's State Special Operations Cell on February 10. Kumar was found with an improvised explosive device (IED) and a foreign-made pistol, which were reportedly smuggled across the Indo-Pak border using drones by a Pakistani operative named Jasvir Chaudhary. The NIA has registered the case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, the Explosives Act, and the Arms Act, as directed by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). The government has recently introduced a comprehensive national counterterrorism strategy called Prahaar, which focuses on intelligence-led prevention and collaboration with international partners to combat terrorism effectively. According to MHA data, terrorist incidents in India have significantly decreased from 7,217 between 2004 and 2014 to 2,242 from 2014 to 2024, indicating a positive trend in national security.
