Interpol has issued a Red Corner notice for Shubham Jaiswal, the alleged mastermind of a codeine syrup smuggling operation based in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India. Jaiswal is currently absconding in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The notice follows a significant drug seizure on November 19, 2025, when a large quantity of codeine cough syrup was recovered from a warehouse in Varanasi, leading to a police investigation under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The local police, with assistance from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), successfully applied for the notice to facilitate his arrest and extradition. So far, Bhola Jaiswal, Shubham's father, and 23 other individuals have been arrested in connection with the smuggling network, with cases registered across various police stations in Varanasi and Sonbhadra district, Uttar Pradesh.
